Rymin(e)craft Overtly Opinionated Not-Really-Even-Vanillish Experience Modpack for an Upcoming Survival Multiplayer Experience
or: ryminatorSMP because ROONREVEMfaUSME sounds awful
some folks in the server expressed wanting to play minecraft and i am more than willing to put the time and effort into making it happen, physical server running out of my closet and everything. but first i wanted to put together the modpack and make sure it was fun and looked good. it currently includes nearly 90 mods and a dozen resource packs (not including ones included with mods).
links are only included here for informational purposes as the distributed modpack .zip will include everything. the .zip is copied from my local instance, but with things like my test world and personal settings options stripped out so it acts like a fresh installation.
after installing prism and finishing the first-time setup, click on "add instance", then head to "import" in the sidebar, then "browse" to locate your download of ryminatorSMP.zip
. clicking OK will then create a minecraft java edition v1.21.1 instance with the mods and resource packs listed below.
you might also need to set the java version because i have to export the instance with a config file that prism needs to see in order to make the instance and it happens to have the linux path for a java installation that likely won't exist on your system. with the ryminatorSMP instance selected, click "edit" and go to "settings". in the "java" tab click "download java" to choose a version of java 21 to run the game with. mojang's is probably fine. alternatively, you can click "auto-detect..." to bring in an existing java install (if you have one).
if we add more mods to the pack, i'll most likely announce a list of download links, which usually just means editing the instance, going to "mods" > "download mods" and searching for the name of the mod(s).

Gameplay Mods (likely will have server-side stuff, so mostly non-optional)
- Accessories
- adds more types of equipment, currently usable with the current pack: charm, cape, back, wrist, ring, belt, GPS.
- Accessories Trinkets Compat Layer
- compatibility layer for a similar equipment framework, without having to install that particular framework because i think adding multiple menus that do roughly the same thing but are not compatible with each other is confusing!
- Accessorify
- makes various vanilla objects equippable as accessories, i.e. elytra as a cape so you can still wear a chestplate, totem of undying as a charm so it autoprocs, compass and clock on your wrists adds related info to the HUD, etc.
- Amendments
- changes to cauldrons, lecterns, lanterns, hanging signs, jukeboxes, carpets, cakes, lilypads, mob skulls, brewing stands, banners, pots and bells.
- Another Furniture
- the furniture framework i ended up liking because it doesn't add umpteen dozen items per wood-type combination and it has a service bell, which is uncraftable and unobtainable afaict. i'll cheat her in, dw.
- BackSlot
- two additional offhand slots (belt sheath and back sling) and also adds keybind combos.
- Better Ladders
- ladders no longer need to be set against a block, let the them hang free!
- BetterThanMending
- (server-only) on tools enchanted with mending, sneak+right click to use some of your experience bar to repair some of their durability.
- Chiseled Bookshelves Add Enchantment Power [PurpurPack]
- what if you set up a bunch of chiseled bookshelves (the ones you put usable books inside to retrieve them later) around an enchantment table and filled them with wonderful and rare enchanted books to try and get even rarer enchants and the enchantment table said "smite I"? now it should work as expected.
- Crate Delight
- farmer's delight addon that lets you crate up more vanilla food like apples, berries and eggs.
- Farmer's Delight
- probably the first of the not-at-all vanilla mods, adds new crops and new crafting stations to cook new foods with new effects like nourishment and comfort.
- Fowl Play
- adds lots of birds as mobs. so many birds. i really believe this improves the ambience of the game.
- Immersive Lanterns
- lanterns have dynamic light physics and are now equippable on belt.
- Just Potion Rings
- any effect that exists in the game (included modded ones, it's rather dynamic) is now permanent with an equippable ring. some are craftable, some need to be found. many have to be cheated in.
- if you want a specific ring (especially an unobtainable) immediately, lmk. i'll be starting with a night vision ring.
- Leaves Us In Peace
- (server-only) leaves from felled trees decay much faster.
- More Delight
- more craftable food for farmer's delight!
- Nocturnal Bats
- (server-only) bats are now no longer restricted to being in caves.
- Origins
- adds a list of RPG-ish (but still minecraft-themed) races you can choose from when you first spawn in a world. and yes, "human" is a choice for a vanilla experience!
- Origins Minus
- technically an override of the previous mod that is a requirement for this one, same races, slightly different names, less drawbacks.
- if you want to change your origin at any point after choosing one, lmk.
- PocketGPS
- (client-only) locks xaero's minimap to the GPS equipment item you can craft from this mod.
- Potion Cauldron
- apparently cauldrons have different functions in the bedrock version of minecraft. with this, they're now in java.
- Pure Copper Tools
- makes the commonly obtainable copper ore more useful outside of decorative blocks! make tools, weapons and armor! let the copper oxidize for maximum durability! it's not much better than iron!
- Raw Ores Processing
- (server-only) what if you wanted to smelt a raw ore block and the blast furnace said "no"? now it's possible. keep in mind that raw ore blocks smelts at a slower rate than the raw ores by themselves but it's good for the kind of smelting session that require less of your attention.
- Rotten Flesh Leather
- for those who would rather wear a suit made of (formerly) human skin over murdering a cow (or many rabbits), shove all that rotten flesh into the smoker for leather.
- Secure Crops
- (server-only) i think, even if i set the server to secure all farmland, NPCs will still fuck up the crops. we may actually not need this. we'll see.
- Soul Candles
- torches, lanterns and campfires have soul fire variants, but candles don't burn blue. now they do. and jack-o-lanterns too.
- Sound Physics Remastered
- sounds sound different in different areas. like, eating in a cave adds reverb to the eating sounds.
- Stone Is Stone
- (server-only) what if you wanted to make a stone pickaxe with all that granite (or other stone type that isn't "stone") you picked up and then the crafting table said "no"? it works now.
- Storage Delight
- i guess this is technically another furniture framework. it's mostly just new barrel-like objects with fancy skins.
- Traveler's Backpack
- another not-very-vanilla mod that adds craftable storage you can equip on your back. there's many variants of the backpack (further craftable or you have to find them) that have abilities (like experience boosts, or wall-climbing), and you can upgrade the storage capacity or add stuff like 3x3 crafting inside the backpack menu, on-the-go smelting/smoking/blasting, tanks to hold liquids, item magnet, autofeed, portable jukebox, etc.
- Uncraftables
- why are you expected to find your own bells or saddles? half of minecraft is the crafting. let me make my own trident. we can now.
- Uncrafting Table
- expensive recipe to craft a table that uncrafts almost anything back into the recipe, just keep in mind the input requires the exact output of the recipe (i.e. 1 torch returns nothin, but 4 torches returns the coal and stick). i may set this to require experience so you need to have good incentive to uncraft.
- Universal Ores
- why doesn't ore generate in the other stone types? now it does.
- Veinminer
- series of mods that allow the ability to mine multiples of the same block in a group at once (with a max distance of 1 air block diagonally) up to 64 at one time.
- Veinminer Client
- (client-only) this addition makes it so you only veinmine with a hotkey held down and use the tool normally otherwise.
- Veinminer Enchantment
- this locks veinmine to an enchantment only. gotta earn it! are you noticing a theme with some of the big QoL stuff? :)
Graphics Mods (optional client-side stuff for graphics sickos)
UI additions (mostly optional unless otherwise stated)
- AppleSkin
- (required by server) food HUD improvements and tooltips for foods.
- Armor Toughness Bar
- adds another armor bar in the HUD for armor toughness (for diamond armor and up).
- Chat Heads
- adds your skin's face in front of your name in the in-game chat.
- Chat Patches
- Distraction Free Recipes (EMI)
- mostly exists for people new to the next mod so it doesn't immediately overwhelm you
- EMI
- (required by server) replacement for the recipe book to lookup any item and find out how you can get it (left click) or how you can use it (right click).
- EMI Enchanting
- EMI addon, adds a tab that gives more info on enchantments and what you can apply it to.
- EMI Loot
- (required by server) EMI addon, adds a tab that shows loot tables.
- EMI Ores
- (required by server) EMI addon, adds a tab that shows how and where an ore block generates.
- EMI Professions
- EMI addon, adds a tab that shows which villager professions offer a selected item.
- FastQuit
- probably not needed for multiplayer.
- Jade
- (required by server) this is the "what am i looking at" mod, essentially.
- Jade Addons
- (required by server) this adds support for mods.
- Just Enough Breeding
- technically a JEI addon that adds breeding info but it also works on EMI.
- Mod Menu
- adds a menu to list all installed mods and this is usually where their settings are stuffed.
- No Chat Reports
- (required by server) acab includes microsoft!
- No Telemetry
- Repacked
- mainly exists here as a quick way to continue using options without waiting for the game to reload assets. it's also a per-world resource pack profile manager.
- Show Durability
- tools, weapons, and armor now display a toggleble number next to them.
- World Host
- (required by server???) even though this will eventually be hosted on a dedicated server and will not need this, this is here for the testing period beforehand.
- Xaero's Minimap
- adds a minimap to your HUD, which is locked behind crafting the item from PocketGPS.
- Xaero's World Map
- shows a big world map based on where you've been so far. unsure if i can make it so all players can contribute to the map. this isn't locked behind anything.
Library Mods (mostly non-optional)
if there's anything you want me to add, lmk and i'll look into it.
if you find something specific, please make sure it works for 1.21.1 and the fabric loader.
[ ] TODO: determine whether things i claim are optional actually are for the server once it exists
Resource Packs included are entirely optional, feel free to bring your own!
but if you do want to use these, enable them in this order (the final list will be in reverse order)
- Default Connected Textures (included with Continuity)
- adds various texture connections between types of blocks i.e. a smooth transition between two types of stone, or making wall of the same glass blocks look like a solid sheet.
- Glass Pane Culling Fix (included with Continuity)
- makes it so glass pane faces that aren't being seen do not render, which may help the game run faster.
- xali's Enhanced Vanilla
- probably the most vanilla-but-not texture pack i ended up liking the most, enhanced further by Continuity with its connected textures.
- Birch_Revamp
- makes birch leaves orange.
- FancyFast Bushy Leaves
- makes trees fluffier but also solid.
- Animated-Ore
- this (obviously) makes ores animated and (less obviously) also glow in the dark with emissive textures (optionally) enabled in Continuity.
- REVIVED_farmer's delight_crops
- 3D models for farmer's delight crops.
- Crops-3D
- 3D models for vanilla crops.
- simple 3D ladder
- simple 3D ladder :) what do you want from me?
- SPEGG BP
- backported spawn eggs from 1.21.5.
- EvenBetterEnchants
- most vanilla enchanted books have unique designs per enchant to make the items easier to identify from a glance.
- enchant icons
- adds helpful icons and colours in the descriptions of enchanted books and removes the roman numerals from the enchant levels.
- Default-Dark-Mode
- the dark mode UI i ended up liking the most.
- Default-Dark-Mode-Expansion
- this adds the above dark mode to more mods, but doesn't cover everything.
